Mr. Piper is an Associate Attorney at Dickey & Campbell Law Firm, P.L.C. He graduated from Drake University Law School in 2007. In addition to his law degree, Mr. Piper holds a B.A. in English Linguistics/Spanish from the University of Northern Iowa, an M.A. in Spanish from the University of Northern Iowa, and a Master of Linguistics degree from El Colegio de México in Mexico City.
Mr. Piper entered the practice of law after a distinguished career as a linguist and interpreter/translator in Mexico and the U.S. In recent years, he has provided leadership in the field of judiciary interpreting, serving as the President of the Iowa Interpreters and Translators Association, President of the Society for the Study of Translation and Interpretation, and Program Chair of the Interpretation and Translation program at the Des Moines Area Community College. Certified as a Spanish court interpreter and as a translator of English into Spanish, Mr. Piper has provided expert testimony on issues of interpreter accuracy and ethics, and has directed many professional development seminars.
During law school, Mr. Piper served as Vice President of the Hispanic Law Students Association and Secretary of the International Law Society. He earned the Litigation / Dispute Resolution Certificate, the Constitutional Law / Civil Rights Certificate, and the Public Service Certificate. He was a recipient of a Howards Fellowship for the Drake Law School Criminal Defense Clinic. He interned with the Federal Public Defender’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa, and clerked at Dickey & Campbell Law Firm, P.L.C. before accepting employment at Dickey & Campbell as an Associate Attorney in August, 2008.
Mr. Piper maintains a general practice including, but not limited to, immigration law, criminal law, administrative law, and the translation and evaluation of legal documents between Spanish and English. His professional credentials in Spanish allow him to serve Spanish-speaking clients directly. Raised in Cedar Falls, Iowa, Mr. Piper lived and worked in Mexico for over 10 years. He currently lives in Des Moines with his wife, Priscila. |
